RAMPUR: On the eve of Holi, the Rampur Jama Masjid committee issued an advisory to the city mosques to alter the timing for Namaz-e-Juma (Friday prayer) in view of Holi celebrations. The committee’s advisory stated that “a unanimous decision has been taken to alter the time and hold Friday prayers after 2 pm.”
Speaking with TOI, secretary of the Rampur Jama Masjid Committee, Mukarram Raza Khan Inayti, said, “After the advisory by the Jama Masjid Committee, we have also requested the other mosques of the city to alter the timing of Friday prayers and ‘khutba’ (discourse) due to the Holi celebrations of our Hindu brothers.”
Inayti said that the Friday prayer of the Jama Masjid, which was scheduled to take place at 1 :30 pm, will now be held at 2 pm and khutba ( discourse) will take place at 2:15pm.
